How to Remodel Your Office

When I decided to remodel my office, I didn't know how to start. My wife suggested that I phone a local remodelling contractor. The contractor inspected the space and made lots of useful suggestions about how I could make best use of the space. Once we had made a plan, the contractor got to work transforming the space. I was amazed at the speed with which the old office was transformed into a modern workplace. I wanted to start a blog so I could write about what I have learnt about remodelling an office. I hope you enjoy the articles I have published here.

Common Areas You Can Find Asbestos In Your House

Asbestos was widely used in a wide range of construction materials in the past. But, when it was discovered that it caused severe health problems, this material was banned worldwide. Although asbestos is no longer used today, you could be exposed to asbestos if you live in an older house.

However, it is essential to note that asbestos materials don't pose risks unless they are disturbed and the asbestos fibres are released into the air. So, if you identify where the materials that contain asbestos are located, you can hire an asbestos removal company to help you deal with the issue.

What's asbestos?

Asbestos refers to a certain group of mineral fibres that occur naturally. These fibres have chemical- and fire-resistant properties, and that's the main reason they were widely used in the past when creating building materials. Once asbestos materials are disturbed, the fibres become airborne, and if they are inhaled, they can cause a wide range of lung conditions. These fibres normally get lodged into the lungs and cause abnormal growth of cells, which eventually leads to different types of cancers, as well as mesothelioma.

Areas you can find asbestos materials

Floors

Most old houses have floor tiles that are made of asbestos vinyl. These types of tiles were used widely because of their exceptional looks (they came in numerous designs and colours), durability and strength. If your old floor tiles are still in excellent condition, then they aren't dangerous. However, if they have started falling apart or someone hit them and they got damaged, be sure to contact an asbestos removal expert to get rid of them completely.

Insulation

Thanks to the fire-retardant and strength properties of asbestos, most insulation materials were also designed with asbestos. It can be found in the insulation of old stoves or heaters or inside ceiling insulation. This type of asbestos is fragile and must only be handled cautiously, preferably by an expert.

Pipes

Old pipes were also wrapped in insulation that contained asbestos. This helped prevent rips or tears and guaranteed the longevity of the pipes. If the pipes in your house contain asbestos insulation and you have noticed some damages, be sure to contact an expert. The pro will conduct an abatement test to determine asbestos exposure then decide if the pipes need to be repaired or replaced with new ones.

There are other areas in a home where asbestos materials can be found, so be sure to contact a professional if you are worried about asbestos exposure.
